Yesterday the
three-day stretch of sunny, almost Florida-like, 80-degree weather came to an
end. It was rainy and cold. But that did not stop us! Nor did our lack of
weather appropriate clothing. In the morning we made the hour drive from Munich
to the Markus Wasmeier Freilichtmuseum which is a preserved historical Bavarian
village tucked quietly into The Alps.
The
village was beautiful! We had a tour guide with the cliché kind of accent that
made you want a pretzel, and she taught us all about traditional Bavarian
village life. The rain made everything so green and bright! It was truly
spectacular!
We had a
traditional Bavarian meal in the village. It was so delicious!!!!
When we got back
to Munich it was still raining so a few friends and I took the tram to the Neue Pinakothek, to check out the museum’s collection of 19th century
art. We were most impressed by the Impressionist works on display there! I can
honestly say that seeing a painting from Monet’s Water Lilies series in person
completely changed my understanding of the paintings. Those brush strokes!!!! These were a few favorites.
After that we
met up with the GAPP group for birthday dinner. My partner Zeynep turned 16!
She loves spaghetti so we went to an Italian restaurant, Vapiano’s, which is
apparently a chain in Germany. Basically you order your food and then watch
them make it fresh right in front of you. And they make their own pasta! It was
delicious and I think Zeynep had a good time!
